The Mormon Trail
You are living in the beautiful city of Nauvoo, Illinois in early 1844. You overhear your parents talking about people criticizing your religious beliefs and more and more Mormons being shunned and persecuted by the community. There's talk of unrest. Then in June, one of the founders, Joseph Smith, and his brother were killed by an angry mob while jailed in Carthage, Illinois. You see the fear and concern on the faces of your parents.

Over the next few years things get worse as the persecution of the Mormons continues. Then in 1846 your family decides it's finally time to move westward in search of religious freedom. You'll be heading out on the Mormon Trail. Get ready for the adventure that awaits you!
Your job is to record at least 10 journal entries using MS Word describing what daily life is like during your exodus from Nouvoo, Illinois and ending in the Great Salt Lake Valley. Look for landmarks, mountains, rivers, and points of interest to describe your journey. Be descriptive of what you see and what your family and others are going through.
Journal entries are expected to be based on actual events and landforms that pioneers might have encountered while on the Mormon Trail. Include images if you can. You must have the date for each journal entry and each entry must be at least six sentences. The journal entries should cover events in a logical order involving your family's reasons for leaving your home (your first journal entry) along with your arrival in present day Utah. You will also include in your entries information about what conditions were like, dealing with hunger and sickness, encountering Native Americans, crossing mountains and rivers, weather, disease, famine, your first view of The Great Salt Lake Valley. If you have other ideas based on your research that would be great!
Once you've completed your journal entries, we will be using Flip Snack to put together a flipbook.
